FSU's Verse Named Lott IMPACT Trophy Candidate

  TALLAHASSEE  – Florida State defensive end Jared Verse was among 42 collegiate defenders named candidates for the 2023 Lott IMPACT Trophy on Thursday. Verse, a redshirt junior from Dayton, Ohio, led FSU with 17.0 tackles for loss and 9.0 sacks in 2022 on his way to being named a first-team All-American and the leading vote-getter on the All-ACC defensive team. FSU’s Defensive MVP, Verse added three quarterback hurries during the season, one fumble recovery at Miami and one blocked field goal against LSU.   Last season, Verse was the only player in the ACC and one of just two in the Power 5 with four games of at least 2.5 tackles for loss. He led the ACC in sacks per game and was second in tackles for loss per game; of the 11 games he finished, he had at least 0.5 TFL in each.   In the Cheez-It Bowl against Oklahoma, Verse registered a season-high seven tackles, with 2.5 for loss and 1.5 sack. No. 3 FSU Outlasts No. 17 Florida for Fifth-Straight Win Over Gators

  GAINESVILLE, Fla . ( www.sportsdayjax.com )– The No. 3 Florida State softball Team (44-8) took the season sweep over No. 17 Florida (36-15) as they won an 8-7 thriller at Katie Seashole Pressly Stadium. This marks the longest win streak over the Gators in program history with five straight victories. It also marks the first time the Seminoles have won back-to-back games in Gainesville since 2003. The Gators were able to score a run in the bottom of the first off a groundout, but Florida State answered promptly. Two walks and a single into right by Devyn Flaherty loaded the bases with Krystina Hartley up to bat. She was hit by a pitch to allow Hallie Wacaser to walk home to tie the game. Kaley Mudge then smacked a single up and through the middle to move everyone a base further and scored Flaherty for the lead. Relief Corps Pitches No. 4 Gators to Season Sweep of FSU

 JACKSONVILLE ( www.sportsdayjax.com )  – No. 4 Florida came from behind for the 17th time this season to post a 7-5 victory over Florida State for a season sweep in the Sunshine Showdown at 121 Financial Ballpark on Tuesday night. Wyatt Langford (2-for-3) and Jac Caglianone (2-for-5) turned in multi-hit nights while swatting back-to-back home runs. Blake Purnell was untouchable out of the bullpen, tossing a career-high five shutout innings with eight strikeouts. The Gators (36-10, 14-7 SEC) pounced on the Seminoles (15-28, 6-18 SEC) with a four-spot in the top of the first. Caglianone opened the scoring with a two-run single to right field, allowing both Cade Kurland and Langford to score due to a fielding error in right field. NFL Draft: FSU's Robinson Chosen By Carolina Panthers

TALLAHASSEE  – Florida State defensive back Jammie Robinson was selected in the fifth round of the 2023 NFL Draft by the Carolina Panthers with the 145th overall pick on Saturday. Robinson’s selection extends Florida State’s streak to 40 consecutive NFL Drafts with at least one player picked.  That streak, which began in 1984, is the eighth-longest active streak in the nation. Florida State now has 294 NFL Draft picks in its history, including 203 during the 40-year streak, and Robinson is the 35th FSU defensive back drafted in the last 36 years.   Robinson was a back-to-back first-team All-ACC selection, Florida State’s first defender to earn consecutive first-team All-ACC honors since Jalen Ramsey in 2014-15, in both of his seasons after transferring into the program for the 2021 season. Six Former 'Noles Ready For Super Bowl

TALLAHASSEE  (Florida SportsbWire) – Six Seminoles will continue Florida State’s Super Bowl legacy Sunday at Super Bowl LVII inside State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona.   Defensive tackle Derrick Nnadi and defensive end Joshua Kaindoh are on the AFC champion Kansas City Chiefs, and they will face off against defensive end Josh Sweat, defensive end Janarius Robinson, defensive tackle Marvin Wilson and offensive tackle Roderick Johnson on the NFC champion Philadelphia Eagles. COLLEGE FOOTBALL: FSU 2021 Season Opener Moved To Sunday

By MIKE BONTS Florida Sports Wire TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Florida State’s 2021 season opener against Notre Dame in Tallahassee has been shifted to Sunday, Sept. 5, it was announced Tuesday.  The Seminoles were originally scheduled to host the Fighting Irish on Monday, Sept. 6, but now will have the national spotlight the day before Labor Day. Florida State leads the all-time series 6-3, including a 31-27 victory in 2014 over No. 5 Notre Dame the last time the teams met in Tallahassee.  FSU’s 2021 home schedule also includes matchups with Miami, Louisville, North Carolina State, Syracuse, UMass and Jacksonville State.  Priority access to purchase tickets is a benefit to all members of the Seminole Boosters Annual Fund. FSU: The Seminoles will face six ranked opponents over an eight-day stretch out West

Brooke Niles By Hope Carpinello FSU Sports Information TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The Florida State Beach Volleyball program will officially embark on its fifth season, and first as an NCAA sport, this weekend in Tempe, Ariz., when the Seminoles play at the Sun Devil Challenge, March 4-5. FSU will then head to California for five more matches over a three-day span beginning at No. 4 Long Beach State on Wednesday, March 9. In Arizona, the Seminoles will play four total matches including games against No. 17 South Carolina and Arizona State. The Seminoles are a combined 5-0 against the Gamecocks and Sun Devils all-time. FSU will also face two opponents for the first time in No. 15 Grand Canyon and New Mexico. Florida State’s trip to California should provide another early test for the Seminoles as the Garnet & Gold will face three teams all ranked in the top 10 nationally including preseason No. 1 and defending national champion Southern Cal on Friday, March 11.
