JU: Dolphins Best Florida State on the Road -

  TALLAHASSEE, Fla. -  A first-inning grand slam and a four-out bottom of the ninth inning bookended Jacksonville University baseball's 5-4 win over Florida State on Tuesday night at Dick Howser Stadium. The Dolphins (20-10) hit two homers and got strong pitching all evening, stranding 12 Seminoles on base, including the bases loaded to end the game. "That is what you expect when you're on the road against a very good, well-coached team. You expect them to fight," said Head Coach Chris Hayes. "We didn't make it easy on ourselves, but the resolve and the resiliency that this group has shown is pretty special. It's an unwavering confidence that they can get the job done. We've seen it continue to develop all year." At the end, after Florida State had cut the deficit to two entering the ninth, it felt like things were breaking right for the Seminoles to win it. COLLEGE BASEBALL NOTEBOOK: Flagler's O’Reilly earns preseason all-conference honors

O'Reilly By MIKE BONTS Jacksonville SportsDay Flagler College senior right-handed pitcher Mike O’Reilly was selected to the Preseason All-Peach Belt Conference Baseball Team which was released this morning by conference officials. O’Reilly was selected to the NCBWA Preseason All-Southeast Region First-Team last Saturday. Last year, O’Reilly led the staff with a 2.89 earned run average and posted a 7-3 record with one save and he tossed three complete games. He was selected as the PBC’s Pitcher of the Year and earned first-team all-conference honors as well as being a consensus first-team all-region pick. O’Reilly struck out a staff-best 94 batters in 93.1 innings of work.  O’Reilly led the Peach Belt in shutouts (2); was second in wins, complete games and innings pitched; third in ERA; fourth in strikeouts; and sixth in games started (13).
