Vermeer Named Top Male Player of the Year at the 66th USTA Florida Annual Tennis Awards

ORLANDO, Fla. – The 66th edition of the USTA Florida (United States Tennis Association-Florida Section) Annual Awards & Volunteer Celebration Weekend honored Florida’s top tennis volunteers on Nov. 21-22, 2015, at the Hyatt Regency Grand Cypress in Orlando, Fla. The USTA Florida Male Player of the Year was Frank Vermeer of Jacksonville. When last year’s ITF Seniors World Individual Championships were held in Palm Beach Gardens, the event kick-started results for Frank Vermeer, who reached the final before losing a tight three-setter. Since then the Jacksonville resident has been on a tear at USPTA, ITF and USTA League events. The director of tennis at Deerwood Country Club finished 2014 at No. 2 in the USPTA Grand Prix Men’s 45 rankings. Orange Park Team Captures State Title, Advances to Nationals at 2015 USTA Florida 55 & Over Tennis Championships

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. --  The women’s team from Indian River/Manatee/St. Lucie counties (Stuart, Fla.) won the 3.5 level for the second year in a row, and squads from Broward (Weston),  Duval (Orange Park) and  Sarasota (City of Sarasota) counties were also winners over the weekend at the 2015 USTA Florida Adult 55 & Over 3.5/4.5 League  Sectional Championships, held May 1-3 at the Florida Tennis Center in Daytona Beach. The Marion County men (Hernando) at the 3.5 level came within a match of repeating as state champions, losing in the final to Duval County. The Broward women won the 4.5 level over Duval County (Jacksonville), and the Sarasota men stopped Pinellas County (St. Petersburg) in the men’s 4.5 final. Teams consisting of three doubles lines competed in a non-elimination round-robin format. Preview: 2015 USTA Florida 65 & Over League Tennis State Championships

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - - Regional USTA League champion teams from across Florida will converge on the Florida Tennis Center in Daytona Beach on April 10-12 for the 2015 Adult 65 & Over League Sectional Championships, featuring the top 65 & Over teams in the Sunshine State. Counties defending their Florida Sectional titles from last year will be Duval (Women's 6.0), Sarasota (Women's 7.0), Collier (Women's 8.0), Lee-Charlotte (Men's 7.0), and Hillsborough (Men's 8.0) which went on the win the national championship. Teams consisting of three doubles lines will compete in a non-elimination round-robin format. The winner of each flight/division will be determined by team matches won. The winner of each flight will then advance into a single-elimination semifinal followed by the final. The NTRP (National Tennis Rating Program) scale for doubles progresses from 6.0 to 8.0 combined levels of play for the USTA Florida Adult 65 & Over League Championships....
