ST. AUGUSTINE – Donna (Hicks) Cohen ’79, Sanford Dixson ’81, and Corey Mundy ‘15 were inducted as the 21st class of the Flagler College Athletics Hall of Fame Thursday night (May 14) at a banquet sponsored by Carrabba’s Italian Grill at the Virginia Room in the Ringhaver Student Center. The event is part of the College’s annual Alumni Weekend (May 14-17). Flagler’s Director of Golf, Santiago Cavanagh, will be inducted at a separate ceremony in December. The Flagler College Athletics Hall of Fame was established in 2004 to honor student-athletes and administrators who made a major contribution to the intercollegiate sports programs while at Flagler, as well as a significant impact in their community after graduating, and since then, 79 people and one team have been inducted, including this year’s class.   AUGUSTA, Ga. – Flagler College's Ava Matthews was selected as the Peach Belt Conference's Freshman of the Week for the period ending February 22, as released by conference officials. The Sanford, Florida native appeared in two of Flagler's three games last week and posted a 1-0 record with a 2.10 earned run average. She retired nine of the last 11 batters she faced.  Matthews received her first win against No. 6 (NFCA Division II Top 25) Francis Marion University as she tossed four scoreless innings and allowed one hit in a 9-3 win. In her next appearance, Matthews came in to finish their second game against Francis Marion. She allowed two runs on five hits in 2.2 innings in a 3-0 loss. Matthews is eighth in the Peach Belt in strikeouts with 17 and is sixth in strikeouts looking (8) Flagler heads to Savannah State University for a doubleheader Wednesday at 2 p.m.

FLORENCE, S.C. – Flagler College rallied from a 7-0 deficit to take a 9-8 lead in the fifth inning only to fall short in the end 12-10 to Wingate University in an elimination game of the NCAA Division II Southeast Region No. 1 Tournament Friday night at the FMU Softball Stadium. Flagler ended its season with a 33-22 record. Wingate improved to 39-22 overall and will have to beat top-seed Francis Marion University twice tomorrow to advance to the super regional round. The Bulldogs jumped out to an early 7-0 lead, but the Saints chipped away and got four in the third, one in the fourth, and erupted for four runs in the fifth to take a 9-8 lead. Flagler took advantage of a Wingate error to plate four unearned runs in the fifth.   AUGUSTA, Ga. – Flagler College sophomore  Henley Grunst  was selected as the Peach Belt Conference's Goalkeeper of the Week, according to a release this afternoon by conference officials. Grunst recorded her first shutout of the season in a 2-0 win at Georgia College & State University. The Anderson, South Carolina native tallied four saves. Grunst is third in the PBC in saves per game (5.2). Flagler visits Georgia Southwestern State University on Saturday (Oct. 5) at 5 p.m. in Americus.

NEW ORLEANS, La. ( www.sportsdayjax.com )– The track and field team at Flagler College was honored for their success in the classroom this past season.  The Saints received the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) All-Academic Team honors.  The women posted a 3.51 cumulative grade point average.  The men posted a 3.01 cumulative grade point average. The cumulative GPA (not 2022-23 academic year, not semester) for all student-athletes on the institution's NCAA Squad List for Indoor and/or Outdoor Track and Field must be 3.0 or higher on a 4.0 scale, certifiable by the institution's registrar. Institutions utilizing a different GPA scale must convert the GPA to a 4.0 scale using the standard conversion method [GPA/Scale x 4.0].  Transfer students and/or graduate students are to include only grades earned at the current nominating institution. CORAL SPRINGS, Fla. ( www.sportsdayjax.com )– Flagler College freshman Stella Jelinek was selected to the Women’s Golf Coaches Association (WGCA) All-South Region Team according to a release this afternoon. The Leimen, Germany native was one of 12 players selected to the all-region team and was the lone golfer from the Peach Belt Conference.  Jelinek was the PBC’s Player and Freshman of the Year and took home first-team all-conference honors. She broke the program record for best scoring average in a season (74.26) and her won-lost percentage (.858) was second in the program’s history.  Jelinek is currently ranked No. 8 by Golfstat and had peaked at No. 2 earlier this spring. She had seven top five finishes this year and won one tournament. Jelinek was the PBC Golfer of the Week on four different occasions.  ST. AUGUSTINE – The Flagler College golf teams received a special donation from the Ringhaver family. Flagler College Trustee Emeritus Randy Ringhaver was on hand, along with the entire women's golf team and coaches, for the unveiling of a set of beautifully framed clubs that were used by the late Elaine Ringhaver Riddle.  The clubs are now prominently displayed in the new Flagler College Golf room. "We are very fortunate to have the Ringhaver family as long-time supporters of the Flagler golf program," said Santiago Cavanagh, the College's director of golf. In 2013, Mr. Ringhaver endowed a scholarship for the women's golf program in the name of his mother Elaine Ringhaver Riggle, who played golf in St. Augustine for many years and the family lived in a residence adjacent the grounds of Flagler College.   ST. AUGUSTINE – Flagler College women's soccer will host an ID camp this summer, Aug. 4-5, at Saints Field at the Flagler Field Athletics Complex. The camp is open to high school players ranging from freshman (grade 9) and up. A goalkeeper session will get things started at 5 p.m. on Aug. 4. There will be 11 vs. 11 scrimmages from 6-8 p.m. following that session. On Aug. 5, there is a technical session from 9:30-11:30 a.m. followed by a lunch break. After lunch, small-sided games will take place from 1-2 p.m. To wrap up the camp, a question and answer session with the Flagler team will be from 2-2:30 p.m. Limited spots are available. The camp fee is $260, which includes both days and a Flagler T-shirt. Meals and lodging ARE NOT provided. INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – The Flagler College women’s tennis team is one of nine team “under consideration” in the first of three NCAA Division II Southeast Region rankings, which were released this afternoon. Next Wednesday teams will be ranked by number. Flagler is 12-3 overall and 8-2 against teams within the region. This does not include Tuesday’s win at the University of North Georgia. Other teams also under consideration are Anderson University (12-1 overall, 12-1 in-region), Catawba College (10-4, 10-3), Columbus State University (6-3, 5-3), Georgia College & State University (13-1, 12-1), the University of Mount Olive (9-6, 9-6), Newberry College (14-2, 14-2), North Georgia (9-3, 8-3), and Wingate University (12-2, 11-2). The Southeast Regional will have eight teams, but four teams will be in one location while the other four will be in another. The conference tournament champions from the Peach Belt, South Atlantic, and Conference Carolinas will receive an automatic berth....

  AUGUSTA, Ga. – Flagler College’s Gage Voorhees was selected as the Peach Belt Conference’s Pitcher of the Week for the period ending April 3, according to a release by conference officials this afternoon. Voorhees pitched a nine-inning complete game as the Saints upended USC Beaufort 3-1. The Springfield, Ohio native struck out a season-high 11 batters while allowing six hits, one walk and one earned run.  He retired 16 of the first 18 batters he faced, including 12 in a row, with 14 ground outs on the day. The 11 strikeouts are tied for the second-most in a single game in the PBC this season.  Voorhees is currently second in the PBC in innings pitched (59.2), seventh in strikeouts (46) and 10th in earned run average (3.77).

ST. AUGUSTINE – Jaiden Warde and Caden Kresak combined to go 6-for-10 with five runs batted in and four runs scored in Flagler College’s 16-3 romp over USC Beaufort in a Peach Belt Conference baseball game Saturday afternoon at Drysdale Field. Flagler won its fourth game in a row and improved to 10-21 overall and 6-11 in the Peach Belt. USC Beaufort dropped to 12-20 overall and 5-15 in conference play. The Saints wasted little time in jumping on the Sand Sharks. They scored three runs in the bottom of the first, two of which were unearned due to an USCB error. The Sand Sharks committed five errors in the game. Flagler added two more unearned runs in the second to take a commanding 5-0 lead. A four-run fifth inning followed by a seven-run sixth inning incurred the 10-run rule and the game ended in the middle of the seventh. O'Reilly By MIKE BONTS Jacksonville SportsDay Flagler College senior right-handed pitcher Mike O’Reilly was selected to the Preseason All-Peach Belt Conference Baseball Team which was released this morning by conference officials. O’Reilly was selected to the NCBWA Preseason All-Southeast Region First-Team last Saturday. Last year, O’Reilly led the staff with a 2.89 earned run average and posted a 7-3 record with one save and he tossed three complete games. He was selected as the PBC’s Pitcher of the Year and earned first-team all-conference honors as well as being a consensus first-team all-region pick. O’Reilly struck out a staff-best 94 batters in 93.1 innings of work.  O’Reilly led the Peach Belt in shutouts (2); was second in wins, complete games and innings pitched; third in ERA; fourth in strikeouts; and sixth in games started (13). AUGUSTINE – Vaughn McCall poured in a game-high 24 points but it wasn’t enough  as Flagler College’s second half comeback came up short in a 78-75 loss to  Francis Marion University in a Peach Belt Conference men’s basketball game Wednesday  night at Flagler Gymnasium. Francis Marion snapped a five-game losing streak to improve to 8-5 overall and the P atriots earned their first Peach Belt win of the season and is now 1-4. Flagler fell to 5-8 overall and 1-4 in conference play. Browning led the Patriots with 22 points and he grabbed a game-high 11 rebounds.  Mike Davis, Jr., added 20 points and had two blocked shots.
