Moeller: Jaguars Need To Take The Gimme Against The Colts

Image
By Jeff Moeller, Florida Sports Wire The Jaguars have a gimme Sunday, and they have to take advantage of it.  Good teams do that. The 4-2 Jags are in that category. They host the reeling 2-5  Colts, who are in the beginning of a massive rebuild, Sunday the Bank, and they need to take advantage of the obvious in front of them. At the time of this writing, running back Jonathan Taylor was still with the team, even though he is expected to be jettisoned soon. Guard Quenton Nelson and defensive tackle DeForest Buckner recently found new homes. General manager Chris Ballard was recently canned, and wide receiver Josh Downs has requested a trade. The Colts have lost three straight, one loss gave Tennessee its first win. Jacksonville has won 11 straight home games against Indianapolis and are 10-point favorites.  This should all add up to an easy Jaguars’ victory Sunday, right? Yet, there is some hesitation in the minds and voices of plenty of Jaguars’ fans. Taylor can st...

Moeller: Jaguars-Colts Should Be A Playoff-Intense Matchup

There should be a sense of playoff intensity at EverBank Stadium Sunday afternoon. It can be as electric as the legendary against the Chargers in 2022 when the last official playoff game was in town. The actual playoffs are weeks away, but the Jaguars should treat their matchup against the Colts as one. This should be the biggest game in Jacksonville in the past three years. The Jags were penalized 13 times, and they led the league in penalties with 104. Against an explosive team like Indianapolis, they can’t afford too many untimely ones. Jacksonville’s running game looked strong on th...

The win set a club regular season record for most points scored. The Jaguars kept their playoff hopes alive with Rashad Greene's 73-yard punt return that competed a 10-point swing and gave Jacksonville a lead they never relinquished. Luck, the Colts' starting QB, is out with abdominal injuries suffered in a victory over Denver. That left it up to veteran backup Matt Hasselbeck who led the Colts to a 16-13 OT win over the Jaguars in October. Trailing 16-13 entering the second half, Jaguars' QB Blake Bortles threw an 80-yard TD pass to Allen Hurns. Later he would add a four yard score to Allen Robinson.  Bortles had a record setting day with threeTD passes including tight end Julius Thomas' fifth of the season and scored on a one-yard run..  Adam  Vinatiera's 32-yard field goal ...
