ORLANDO (Florida Sports Wire ) – The XFL announced that quarterback Quinton Flowers has signed with the Orlando Guardians.  Flowers, 28, joins the XFL after playing in the Fan Controlled Football in 2021. He played for the Tampa Bay Vipers in the 2020 version of the XFL, where he was 8-of-15 passing for 106 yards, while rushing for 4.9 yards per carry with a touchdown.  Flowers was a three-year starter at the University of South Florida, where he owns 42 career, season or single-game records. He passed for 8,124 yards and 71 touchdowns in his career with the Bulls. He holds the USF and American Athletic Conference records for career total offense (11,802 yards). Flowers was just the fourth player in FBS history to post 8,000 passing and 3,500 rushing yards in a collegiate career.   T ALLAHASSEE, Fla. -  A combined no-hitter and a six-run first inning led the fifth-ranked Florida State softball team (20-3) to its 20th win of the season in a 9-1 victory in five innings over Georgia Southern (10-10). Kaley Mudge led off the bottom of the first with her third triple of the year to get the Noles started. After Jahni Kerr drew a walk and stole second, Kalei Harding drove Mudge home to get the Noles on the board. Devyn Flaherty continued her successful weekend at the plate with a double to bring Kerr home to extend the lead to two. Mack Leonard added another run for the Noles with a single, and Krystina Hartley hit a triple with the bases loaded to put the Noles up 6-0 at the end of the first. After a scoreless second inning, the Noles added another run when Hartley stole second, but the throw was wild allowing Harding to score from third. GAINESVILLE, Fla. - Two Florida men's basketball players earned Southeastern Conference accolades on Monday as graduate forward Colin Castleton was named first-team All-SEC and SEC All-Defensive Team and freshman guard Riley Kugel earned a place on the SEC All-Freshman Team. Castleton led the Gators in scoring (16.0) and rebounding (7.7) while his 3.0 blocked shots per game rank fourth in the nation and are a Florida single-season record. Castleton joined Dorian Finney-Smith as the only transfers to join the 1,000-point club at Florida, and his 1,165 points at UF rank 41st in program history.  His 194 blocked shots are third all-time for the Gators, and his 2.49 blocked shots per game are a program record. Castleton had four straight 20-point games before suffering a broken hand on Feb. 15 vs. Ole Miss that has sidelined him since. ATLANTA -  Jacksonville University baseball senior Hogan McIntosh was named ASUN Player of the Week, as announced by the league office on Monday. McIntosh helped the Dolphins to a 3-2 week, with wins over top-10 Florida and a series victory against Southeastern Louisiana, highlighted by his walk-off, three-run home run on Sunday afternoon. The Charleston Southern transfer extended his team-high hit streak to nine games and registered multi-hit games in four of the five he played in last week. He now has a team-best six multi-hit games on the year. McIntosh drove in at least one run in all five games as well, memorably punctuated by his first home run of the year, a walk-off three-run shot to beat SLU and deliver the series win to JU. He is the first Dolphin to receive Player of the Week honors since Scott Dubrule was recognized on May 14, 2018.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers announced the additions of George Edwards as outside linebackers coach, Brad Idzik as wide receivers coach and Skip Peete as running backs coach. In addition, Jeff Kastl has rejoined the coaching staff as offensive quality control coach and Thaddeus Lewis has been promoted to quarterbacks coach. Edwards joins the Buccaneers for his 26th season of coaching at the NFL level and 34th season of coaching overall. He comes to Tampa Bay after spending three seasons with the Dallas Cowboys (2020-22) as the club’s Senior Defensive Assistant, helping guide a defensive unit that ranked second in interceptions (52), fourth in opponent completion percentage (61.9), sixth in opponent passer rating (86.5) and eighth in sacks (126) over that span.  ATLANTA - Jacksonville University men's basketball redshirt-senior Kevion Nolan was voted to the ASUN's annual All-Academic Team, the conference announced Monday Nolan becomes the first Dolphin since Jace Hoan in 2019 to be named to the team He currently holds a 4.0 GPA in the Sport Communication certification program as he works through his graduate program work. He received his undergraduate degree in social sciences last spring. The Anniston, Alabama native finished an impressive three-year career at JU that saw him record 874 points and 259 assists in the Green and White.  GAINESVILLE - Florida head football coach Billy Napier named Austin Armstrong the Gators next defensive coordinator. Armstrong, 29, spent the past two seasons as the defensive coordinator and inside linebackers coach at Southern Miss. During his first season in 2021, Armstrong was the youngest defensive coordinator in the FBS. The Southern Miss defense, known as the Nasty Bunch during Armstrong's tenure, ranked sixth in the Sun Belt in scoring defense (23.5 ppg), a mark that ranked 45th nationally in 2022. The Golden Eagles were third nationally in tackles for loss per game (8.3), fifth in sacks (3.38) and seventh in interceptions (17). USM was also third in fourth down conversion defense (.231).
