.No. 19 Flagler Saints Fall in Regular Season Finale
MELBOURNE (www.jaxsportsday.com) – Lauryn Wood scored a pair of goals to lead Florida Tech to a 3-1 win over No. 19 (United Soccer Coaches Division II Top 25) Flagler College in a non-conference women's soccer match Saturday night at Rick Stottler Field.
Flagler concludes the regular season with a 10-3-3 overall record. The Saints will be the No. 3 seed in the Peach Belt Conference Tournament that starts on Nov. 6. Flagler is projected to host Clayton State University at 5 p.m. The official bracket will be released on Monday. Florida Tech improved to 11-1-3.
Paige Churchill's goal in the 19th minute tied the match at 1-all. Elizabeth Hall's long ball found Andrea Fernandez about 35 yards away from the goal. Fernandez managed to get a foot on the pass to re-direct the ball to Churchill. She fired a shot from the top of the box and tucked the ball inside the left post.
That score would stand at the half.
Wood scored the second of her two goals in the 54th minute when she took Marem Ndiongue's through ball and scored one-on-one with the keeper. Ndiongue assisted on both of Wood's goals. The Panthers added a penalty kick conversion in the 58th minute.
Ayana Aoyagi finished with three saves for Florida Tech. Jasmine Rehberger had four for Flagler.
The Panthers out-shot the Saints 13-11, but the Saints held a 5-4 advantage in corner kicks.
