Luke Metzger Named Assistant Men’s Basketball Coach at Flagler College
“I am really excited to have Luke join the Saints Nation,” said Selland. “Luke’s familiarity with NCAA Division II and his love for Flagler is a great fit.”
Metzger comes to the Ancient City from Ashland University in Ashland, Ohio. He spent last season as a graduate assistant for head coach John Ellenwood and the Eagles. Metzger assisted in the recruitment of student-athletes and conducted opponent personnel and team film sessions.
He took the lead in player development workouts and film sessions. Metzger helped Maceo Williams earn Great Midwest Player of the Year honors and Cooper Davis second team all-conference accolades last year.
“I am truly grateful to Coach Selland and the athletic administration for the opportunity to be a part of Flagler basketball,” said Metzger. “I have always had a unique connection to Flagler College and St. Augustine. My grandparents were a big part of the community here so it's extremely special to carry on that legacy. I couldn't be more excited to get started and continue to build on the foundation laid here by so many great people. I am thankful to be a Saint!”
He played five seasons for the Eagles and was named to the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) Honors Court in 2021-22. Metzger was the Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA) Huddle Leader all five years at Ashland. He also served one year as the New Albany (Ohio) High School assistant basketball coach and head junior varsity coach.
Metzger and his wife, Laura, reside in St. Augustine. He is the grandson of Clarence and Sally Metzger who both served on the Saints Club Advisory Board at Flagler.
