Moeller: Gladstone Can Make a Further Impact With Veteran Presences To Fill Some Holes

Jaguars GM James Gladstone should contact fellow peer Howie Roseman in Philadelphia.

A situation has arisen, and Gladstone needs to find a solution.

By many indications, Roseman is ready to part ways with some of his defensive lineman for future draft picks.

Suddenly with the season-ending injury to defensive tackle DaVon Hamilton, the Jags need a veteran presence on the line. The Jags also have lost safety Eric Murray in an already questionable secondary that has hobbled by injuries all season.

Gladstone will work the phones, and Roseman is worth a call. However, Gladstone does have some time with the early game in Baltimore Thursday before the Nov. 10 trade deadline.

Roseman may still be undecided if he wants to have a fire sale despite his team’s six-game losing streak, the latest plight of a few this season. If the Eagles lose at home against the Giants Sunday, the season that is on life support likely will pass.

Yes, ironically like Jacksonville, Philly is in a weak division. Currently, the Giants hold all the cards in the NFC East like the Jaguars hold all the cards in the AFC South.

Roseman reportedly is willing to part ways with 25-year-old Moro Ojomo, who will be a free agent after this season. He had a breakthrough with Eagles, but a change of scenery can help him.

There has been plenty of talk about the Eagles’ Jalen Carter being mentioned in trade talks with Philly. Carter has a $120 million price tag, and his overall effort has been questioned. Like Ojomo, Carter might benefit with a change of scenery.

Miami veteran Zach Sieler might be an easier snag, and he has 28 sacks since 2023.

The Jags may stay in house and give more time to incumbents Albert Regis and Ruke Orhorohoro, Matt Dickerson, and Bryan Thomas Jr.

Yet, a veteran presence can greatly help.

In the secondary, Arizona’s Budda Baker has been on the radar of several teams, and Tennessee’s Amani Hooker could be picked up.

There’s also the other Brian Thomas Jr - the receiver - who apparently still is on the block.

Before the Hamilton and Murray injuries, there was plenty of chatter about the Jags being in talks involving Indianapolis running back Jonathan Taylor in spite of the rise of Bhayshul Tuten.

Taylor certainly can put the Jags over the top, and Gladstone is the guy to pull that deal off and others.

Thursday night, the Jags appeared ready to pick up another break against nearly quarterback-less Baltimore, but the Ravens acquired Jacoby Brissett Wednesday afternoon. How much Brissett can pick up besides handing off to Derrick Henry is yet to be seen.

Gladstone is faced with his first potential crisis of a season of successes for his 5-2 team. The Jags have rebounded well from the slipups, and they should be able to thwart off the Ravens’ attack in Baltimore. Finding some veterans to fill some spots can further lift this team.

Super Bowl caliber teams find solutions to their problems throughout  the season.
