Flagler's Stella Jelinek selected as PBC Golfer of the Week
AUGUSTA, Ga. – Flagler College's Stella Jelinek was selected as the Peach Belt Conference's Women's Golfer of the Week, according to a release by conference officials Monday afternoon.
This is Jelinek's second player of the week honor (Oct. 9) this season. She earned the honor four times last year.
Jelinek finished in a tie for first place with a 6-under par 138 (72-66) at the NCAA Division II National Championship Fall Preview (Oct. 30-31).
The Leimen, Germany native tied her own record for the lowest round for a Flagler golfer all-time with her final round 66. Her 138 bested the school record for a 36-hole tournament by three strokes. Jelinek's 6-under par broke the program's 36-hole record for score relative to par. Thanks to her performance in the final round, she was able to vault up the leaderboard 16 places and claim her third medalist honor in her career.
Jelinek has played in 15 events in her career and has finished in the top 10 in 10 of them. She leads the PBC in scoring average (71.7) this year. Jelinek also helped lead Flagler win its third consecutive tournament.
The Saints shattered the school record for 36-hole score as well as score relative to par (-7). Twelve of the 13 teams in the field were ranked in the WGCA Division II Top 25.
