Jennifer Kupcho, Sarah Schmelzel, Lexi Thompson Complete 2024 U.S. Solheim Cup Team

  GAINESVILLE, Va. – U.S. Solheim Cup Team Captain Stacy Lewis has selected Jennifer Kupcho, Sarah Schmelzel and Lexi Thompson as her captain’s picks for the 2024 Solheim Cup, to be held Sept. 13-15 at Robert Trent Jones Golf Club in Gainesville, Va. Kupcho, Schmelzel and Thompson join the nine automatic qualifiers for the U.S. Team who were named following the completion of play at the AIG Women’s Open. Nelly Korda, Lilia Vu, Lauren Coughlin, Ally Ewing, Allisen Corpuz, Megan Khang and Andrea Lee qualified via the U.S. Solheim Cup Team Standings, while Rose Zhang and Alison Lee qualified via the Rolex Women’s World Golf Rankings. Thompson will represent the U.S. for the seventh consecutive time, joining 2013, 2015, 2017, 2019, 2021 and 2023. Bermúdez Becomes Second Former Jumbo Shrimp in as Many Days to Make MLB Debut

  JACKSONVILLE  –   Former Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp left-handed pitcher Jonathan Bermúdez made his major league debut for the Miami Marlins on Tuesday in a game at the Colorado Rockies at Coors Field in Denver. He is the second Jumbo Shrimp alumnus in as many days to debut in the major leagues, following outfielder Griffin Conine, who made his big league debut on Monday. Bermúdez worked 3.2 innings of relief on Tuesday, yielding two runs on six hits. He did not walk a batter and struck out three Rockies in the Marlins’ come-from-behind 9-8 victory.   A native of Coamo, Puerto Rico, Bermúdez totaled 23.2 innings of work for Jacksonville in 2024, pitching to an ERA of 6.46 with 28 strikeouts over six appearances.   Originally selected by the Houston Astros in the 23rd round of the 2018 draft out of Southeastern University, Bermúdez was claimed off waivers by San Francisco in 2022. Following a brief stint in the Giants organization, Bermudez signed a contract with Miami in April 2023.   

Scott Kornberg to Broadcast Seven Additional Marlins Regular Season Games

  JACKSONVILLE, Fla.  – Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp Director of Broadcasting & Media Relations and radio play-by-play voice  Scott Kornberg  will join the Marlins Radio Network to broadcast seven additional Marlins regular season games from September 9-15, when Miami plays at the Pittsburgh Pirates and Washington Nationals. Kornberg, who has also broadcast select Marlins’ Spring Training games each of the last four seasons,  made his major league debut on May 18 and had the walk-off call in a Marlins win over the New York Mets . He will be paired  with Miami Marlins broadcaster  Kyle Sielaff  and pregame host  Stephen Strom  on the Marlins Radio Network.
