  AUGUSTA, Ga.- Flagler College volleyball was tabbed fourth in the Peach Belt Conference Preseason Coaches' Poll Thursday Morning (Aug. 29). Returning outside hitter  Jordan Berglin  nabbed an all-conference bid. In the 2023 season, Flagler finished 8-19 overall and 4-8 in the PBC as the season came to an end in the conference tournament.  Augusta University, the defending league champions in both the regular season and tournament play, were selected to top the PBC with 15 votes including three first place bids. Lander University, the league runners up, were tabbed to finish second with only one vote separating them from Augusta. Lander got 14 votes including two for first place. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers today signed quarterback   Michael Pratt   to the practice squad. Pratt’s signing brings Tampa Bay’s practice squad to its capacity at 17 players. Pratt  (6-2, 217) originally entered the league as a seventh-round selection (No. 245 overall) by the Green Bay Packers in the 2024 NFL Draft. He spent the 2024 offseason and training camp with Green Bay before being waived on August 27.  Pratt played collegiately at Tulane University (2020-23), where he appeared in 45 career games and completed 729-of-1,203 passes (60.6%) for 9,602 yards and 90 touchdowns compared to 26 interceptions.   JACKSONVILLE –  The Jacksonville Jaguars have signed QB John Rhys Plumlee to the practice squad, the team announced today. Rhys Plumlee recently participated in training camp with Pittsburgh after signing as an undrafted free agent on April 29, 2024. Prior to starting his NFL career, he spent five seasons playing at the collegiate level with both Mississippi (2019-21) and Central Florida (2022-23).  In 52 games he completed 464 passes for 5,838 yards and 34 touchdowns while also rushing 453 times for 2,556 yards and 28 touchdowns. During his senior season (2023), he was named 247Sports most dynamic athlete and broke the UCF record for most career rushing yards by a quarterback (1,334 yards).   The Hattiesburg, Miss., native graduated in May 2023 with a degree in interdisciplinary studies and received 2022 AAC All-Academic Team honors.

  CORAL GABLES -  Three members of the University of Miami rowing team are slated to compete at the 2024 World Rowing Championships in St Catharines, Canada this week, marking a program record for the most participants at the event.  The three Canes set to compete this week include returnee Naroa Zubimendi who will be competing in the U23 World Championships, and a pair of incoming freshmen in Sara Caterisano and Candela Martinez Pernas.   JACKSONVILLE -  The Sharks have re-signed two University of Alabama offensive linemen for the 2025 season.  Dominick Jackson  and  Leon Brown  were major components to the latter half of Sharks inaugural IFL season.  Jackson (6 '6, 325 lbs) played at Alabama in 2014 and 2015. Before that, he played JUCO ball for the College of San Mateo in 2013, where he was an outstanding guard.  His performance at San Mateo earned him enough recognition to receive an invitation to the combine as a junior. Jackson later signed with the Commanders as an un-drafted free agent.  Brown (6 '7, 320 lbs) played JUCO ball in New York before making a surprise transfer to Alabama in 2012.  Remarkably, Brown never visited Alabama before confirming his transfer.   TAMPA -  The USL Super League, a new Division One professional women’s soccer league, kicked off its inaugural season this past weekend with sold-out crowds at all three stadiums.
