TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — For the second time this month the Florida State baseball team earned national attention for its 2015-16 recruiting class when it ranked fifth in D1baseball.com’s rankings.
This comes after a sixth place ranking by Baseball America that was released on Oct. 13.
It also marks the second time in as many seasons that D1baseball.com has ranked the Seminoles recruiting class in the top 20, after tying for 20th in the 2014-15 rankings.
The Noles’ 2015-16 class includes nine freshmen, two junior college transfers and two collegiate transfers. The four-year transfers were not considered by Baseball America, except when players are leaving programs that have been eliminated.
The Florida State signees for 2015 include Dillon Brown (RHP, Mosley HS); Bryan Bussey (C, Walters State Community College); Chase Haney (RHP, Windermere Prep); Matt Henderson (INF, Santa Barbara City College); Tyler Holton (LHP, Lincoln HS); Matt Kinney (LHP, Belmont University); Jackson Lueck (OF, Orangewood Christian Academy); Jared Middleton (LHP, George W. Jenkins HS); Donovan Petrey (OF, Port Charlotte HS); Cal Raleigh (C, Smoky Mountain HS); Ronnie Ramirez (RHP, Tampa Jesuit HS); Cole Sands (RHP, North Florida Christian HS); Tyler Warmoth (LHP, Stetson College).
“The credit goes to recruiting coordinator Mike Martin, Jr., along with associate head coach Mike Bell who are out there constantly combing the country for the best players,” said head coach Mike Martin. “We certainly are proud of each and every one of our recruits as well as the young men that are returning.”
“We are excited to get started in January and certainly the start of the season in February,” added Martin. “We do have a very good group of young men and a key for them is continuing to work hard in the offseason to get stronger and certainly we will continue to work on agility.
“I like this club because we have improved from last year. We have more speed, depth and pitching than we’ve had in the past. So many times a guy gets hurt and you are wondering why you don’t have don’t have enough pitching. Hopefully no one gets hurt, but if we were to lose someone it would definitely be a situation of the next man up.”
