November MAC-SBC Challenge Matchups Announced For Eagles

STATESBORO - Georgia Southern men's basketball will host Northern Illinois, while women's basketball will travel to play Ohio to open up the 2024-25 season on November 4 as a part of the MAC-SBC Challenge, announced today by league officials.

The challenge - a scheduling alliance between the two leagues in its second year - will kick off during the opening week of the 2024-25 season. Game times for the Eagle men against NIU and for the women at Ohio will be determined later.

The second MAC-SBC Challenge contest for each team during the 2024-25 season will take place on Saturday, February 8, 2025, with the matchups, based on real-time NET rankings, to be announced in January. The MAC men and the Sun Belt women will host the February matchups.

Scheduling assistance for the event is provided by Ordinal Sports Group. In addition to relevant NET data, geography and frequency of past contests are considered in determining the matchups.

Men's basketball will meet NIU for the third time in program history. The two teams last met on December 8, 2006, with the Eagles earning a 72-70 victory in a neutral-site matchup in Des Moines, Iowa. The Huskies won the first meeting on November 28, 1998, by a 67-55 score in another neutral-site matchup in Miami, Fla.

The matchup between women's basketball and Ohio will be the first in program history for the Eagles and the Bobcats.
