JU's Thompson and Richard Earn PostSeason Honors

ATLANTA - The Atlantic SUN announced its 2024 Outdoor Track and Field Postseason Honors Friday afternoon. Cassie Thompson was named ASUN Most Outstanding Track Performer while Alyssia Richard was honored Most Outstanding Field Performer.

The two Phins have found themselves on the ASUN weekly ballot multiple times this season; Richard with two Atlantic Sun Field Performer of The Week awards and Thompson with one Atlantic Sun Track Performer of the Week.

Thompson has been one of the most outstanding ASUN athletes this year, scoring 25 points in the ASUN Outdoor Championships, which also won her the Outdoor ASUN Most Valuable Performer. The Bahamian standout not only broke the JU 100m Dash school record but won in a convincing fashion. She clocked 11.29 in the finals and had a wind-aided 11.27 in prelims, which currently ranks 19th in the NCAA East. The junior also clinched 1st place in the 200m with a time of 23.07. The sprinter further excelled by anchoring the 4x100m relay to a 1st place finish with a time of 44.32, ranking 24th in the NCAA East. Thompson also contributed to a 1st place finish in the 4x400m relay, recording a time of 3:40.39.

Alyssia Richard, earning the ASUN Most Outstanding Field Performer, has been a staple and a consistent thrower for the Dolphins all year. She has held a top-ranking spot in discus and shot put the entire season. In the ASUN outdoor championships, Richard mounted 20 points for JU and finished 1st place in shot put, throwing 15.24 meters, which ranked 55th in the NCAA East. In the championships, she also finished 1st in the discus, with a distance that puts her 56th in the NCAA East.
