Tennis: Flagler Women Debut in Regional Rankings

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – The Flagler College women’s tennis team is one of nine team “under consideration” in the first of three NCAA Division II Southeast Region rankings, which were released this afternoon. Next Wednesday teams will be ranked by number.

Flagler is 12-3 overall and 8-2 against teams within the region. This does not include Tuesday’s win at the University of North Georgia.

Other teams also under consideration are Anderson University (12-1 overall, 12-1 in-region), Catawba College (10-4, 10-3), Columbus State University (6-3, 5-3), Georgia College & State University (13-1, 12-1), the University of Mount Olive (9-6, 9-6), Newberry College (14-2, 14-2), North Georgia (9-3, 8-3), and Wingate University (12-2, 11-2).

The Southeast Regional will have eight teams, but four teams will be in one location while the other four will be in another. The conference tournament champions from the Peach Belt, South Atlantic, and Conference Carolinas will receive an automatic berth. 

The other five teams will receive at-large berths from their ranking in the regional poll. The regional, or preliminary round, will be played May 1-2. 

The national championships will be May 12-16 at the USTA National Tennis Center in Orlando, Florida.
