Louisville Bats Club Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp 13-1

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (www.sportdayjax.com_ The Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp were drubbed 13-1 by the Louisville Bats on Thursday from Louisville Slugger Field.

Louisville (20-21) took the lead from their first at-bats. Jacksonville (19-21) starter Ronald Bolaños (1-4) walked Elly De La Cruz with one out before Christian Encarnacion-Strand doubled. A Jason Vosler sacrifice fly made it 1-0.

 

The Bats then scored 12 runs over the third through sixth innings to put the game out of reach. Alejo Lopez homered to begin the third. Will Benson tripled and scored two batters later on an Encarnacion-Strand RBI single. Following a walk to Vosler, Matt Reynolds’ RBI double made it 4-0.

 

Lopez jumpstarted the fourth with a base hit and Benson doubled. De La Cruz laced a two-run two-bagger before scoring on an Encarnacion-Strand double to widen the gap to 7-0.

 

A Michael Siani walk, Chuckie Robinson single and Lopez walk loaded the bases to start the fifth. Benson cashed in a run with a sacrifice fly. After another free pass, Encarnacion-Strand lifted another sacrifice fly to make it 9-0. Vosler then smashed a three-run home run to give thee Bats a 12-0 advantage.

 

With one out in the sixth, Siani doubled. Lopez doubled him in two batters after that to get the gap to 13-0.

 

The Jumbo Shrimp’s lone run came in the seventh. Charles Leblanc doubled to lead off. After a line out, Cobie Fletcher-Vance’s double put runners on second and third. A wild pitch plated Leblanc to get the final margin at 13-1.

 

The 13-1 defeat was Jacksonville’s worst since falling 17-1 at Mississippi on June 24, 2018.

 

Jacksonville sends RHP Chi Chi González (2-2, 4.54 ERA) to the mound in Friday’s 7:15 p.m. contest against Louisville LHP Andrew Abbott (1-0, 4.50 ERA).
