MBB: Samford Outlasts Jacksonville In OT

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Jacksonville led for over 33 minutes of regulation, but was unable to close out host Samford on Monday. The Bulldogs (3-5) managed to force the extra session and outscored the Dolphins (2-6) 14-8 to claim a 76-70 win at the Hanna Center.

A three by Andris Misters pushed Jacksonville to a 61-55 lead with 4:48 left in regulation. The iron proved unkind from there for the Dolphins however as they didn't hit another field goal until a three from Josh Adeyeye with 21 second left in overtime. The span stretched over nine minutes of game time and allowed Samford to build an 18-6 run and steal the game.

Misters paced the Dolphins for a third straight game with a career high 23 points and eight rebounds. His night included four three points, a perfect 7-7 form the foul line and two assists. Kori Babineaux added 12 points and five assists while J.R. Holder supplied 11 points and four assists.

Samford scored a go-ahead basket and free throw with 45 seconds left in regulation to claim just its third lead of the game up to that point. The Dolphins responded hitting 1-of-2 at the line with 30 seconds remaining to tie the score at 61. An offense rebound gave Jacksonville possession, but a turnover set up a final opportunity in regulation for the Bulldogs which was off the mark.

Jacksonville maintained control early shooting 50 percent in the first half. The Dolphins would lead at the break for the third consecutive game going into the locker room ahead 39-37.
