WBB: UNF's Smith, KSU's Frye Secure ASun Weekly Honors
MACON, Ga. - North Florida's Destinee Smith and Kennesaw State's Karly Frye were selected as this week's Atlantic Sun Women's Basketball Weekly honorees, announced by the league office on Monday.
Senior Destinee Smith collects her first career Atlantic Sun Player of the Week honor after she scored a career-high 27 points against the Florida Gators of the SEC.
The 27 points scored is tied for second-most ever in the Ospreys Division I history. Smith extended her team-best streak of 11 double-digit performances, averaging over 16 points per game during that span. She shot 72.7 percent from the field, while also draining 5-6 from behind the arc in the contest.
She went a perfect 6-6 from the foul line while adding two rebounds, one steal and one assist in the Ospreys lone game of the week.
Karly Frye picks up her first career Atlantic Sun Newcomer of the Week award, the fourth for Kennesaw State this season.
The junior transfer played a major part in the Owls' seventh consecutive win this past week. Frye scored a team-high 12 points, including going 3-4 from the three-point line to help the Owls defeat Xavier 61-60.
Frye's three three-pointers ties a season-high for the junior, while her 12-point performance was just one shy of her season best. She grabbed four rebounds and added one assist, while playing all 40 minutes in the victory.
Her performance helped Kennesaw State to its 10th win on the season.
